Spiders Mid-Pack After 18 Holes at Golfweek Fall Challenge

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. — The Richmond Spiders opened up their defense of 2023 Patriot League championship with an 11-over 295 in Round 1 of the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club Sunday. Through 18 holes, the Spiders are in eighth place in the large 18-team field, 10 strokes behind Round 1 leaders Lipscomb.
Richmond was led by reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year Hannah Lydic, who opened up her sophomore season with a 1-under 70.
"I was so happy to be back representing the team and Coach Calle [Barlow]," said Lydic. "Today I felt like a kid in a candy shop, getting to play and compete again. I've definitely missed it."
Lydic's three birdies Sunday all came on par 5s, helping her offset a pair of bogeys. She is currently third among the 101 golfers in the event.
Sophomore Olivia Wilkie and freshman Maya Beasley are tied for 32nd at 3-over par (74). Junior Lauren Jones is tied for 68th at 6 strokes over par, one shot in front of junior Christine Mandile, who is tied for 76th at 7-over par.
Playing as an individual, seniro Rory Weinfurther shot a 3-over 74.
Richmond will beging play in Round 2 Monday at 7:30 AM.
