PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. — Just three shots separated the top of the Richmond lineup from the bottom Monday in Round 2 of the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, as all five Spiders shot between 72 (+1) and 75 (+4). The net result was a team score of 294 (+10) for Richmond, a one-shot improvement from Sunday. With Tuesday's final round remaining, Richmond is 10th on the 18-team leaderboard at 21 over par (589).
The Spiders were led by sophomore Hannah Lydic for a second straight day, as she carded a 1-over 72 with three birdies and four bogeys. Lydic is tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard at even par (142), just three shots behind 36-hole leader Lauren Thompson from Lipscomb.
Junior Christine Mandile shot a 2-over 73 Monday, recording the lowest round of her collegiate career. She moved up 21 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 55th at 9-over par (151).
"I think the big key today was to stay patient especially around the greens," said Mandile. "I had a lot of birdie opportunities and even though not all of them fell I was able to stay patient and keep plugging along. I tried to stay very present and not get ahead of myself — just focus on one shot at a time and trusting the process."
Freshman Maya Beasley carded a 3-over 74 and is tied for 31st at 6-over par (148), one shot in front of sophomore Olivia Wilkie, who is tied for 41st after a 4-over 75 Monday.
Junior Lauren Jones also shot 75 (+4) Monday and is tied for 59th at 10-over par (152).
Playing as an individual, senior Rory Weinfurther shot 74 (+3) and is tied for 31st with Beasley and eight other golfers.
Richmond will start Tuesday's final round at 7:48 AM Tuesday.
