Six Saturday Home Games Highlight Men’s Basketball’s A-10 Schedule
09/06/2023 | Men's Basketball
RICHMOND, Va. — The Atlantic 10 announced the full conference schedule for the upcoming Men's Basketball season Wednesday, revealing that Richmond will play one-third of its 18 A-10 games Saturdays at the Robins Center. Combined with UR's previously announced non-conference schedule, the Spiders are slated to play 11 Saturday home games during the 2023-24 season, a total that would be two more Saturday home dates than any other season in program history.
Last year's team went 12-4 at the Robins Center, but the 2023-24 roster includes eight players who have never played on Richmond's home court, the most newcomers in any of Head Coach Chris Mooney's 19 seasons at the school.
"More so than at any other time during my years in the Atlantic 10, new players and coaches will have a major impact on the conference this season," said Mooney. "With so much turnover, I'm expecting an unpredictable, exciting A-10 season, and I'm confident our non-conference schedule will prepare us for that challenge."
Richmond will begin its 23rd Atlantic 10 season against St. Bonaventure in the Robins Center on Saturday, January 6. The Spiders travel to Chicago for their first ever road game vs Loyola Chicago on January 9 before returning to the Robins Center for another Saturday home game, this one against George Mason on January 13.
A two-game road trip will see UR visit Duquesne on January 16 and Davidson on January 20, followed by home games against George Washington on January 24 and Dayton on January 27. Richmond's matchup with the Flyers will be broadcast to a national TV audience on CBS Sports Network, the first of at least four A-10 games the Spiders will play on national TV this season.
The Spiders will close January with a road game at Fordham on January 31, then return to Richmond for the first two-and-a-half weeks of February.
On February 3, the Spiders will visit VCU for the Richmond Area Honda Dealers Capital City Classic. The matchup with the Rams will be televised on a to-be-determined ESPN network.
Following a mid-week bye, Richmond play back-to-back games at the Robins Center, taking on La Salle on February 10 and Massachusetts on February 14, and then play consecutive road games at George Washington on February 17 — a game that will be shown on USA Network — and at Rhode Island on February 21.
Richmond hosts Davidson on February 24 before making its longest road trip of the conference season, traveling west to face Saint Louis on February 28.
The finale of the Richmond Area Honda Dealers Capital City Classic will be March 2 at the Robins Center, when UR hosts VCU on CBS Sports Network. Richmond's home finale will be four days later against Saint Joseph's on March 6.
Richmond will conclude the A-10 season at George Mason on March 9, then head north to Brooklyn, N.Y. to compete in the 2024 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship at the Barclays Center from March 12-17.
Tip-off times and full TV broadcast information for all Richmond games will be updated on RichmondSpiders.com as it becomes available. Home games and Atlantic 10 games not shown on national television will be streamed on ESPN+ as part of the Atlantic 10's digital rights agreement.
