Wiley’s Strong Singles Finish Clinches Season-Opening win over Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – With the match tied at 3-3, Davis Wiley completed the comeback win over Samuel Haikal (ARMY) on singles court three to clinch a 4-3 win over Army Saturday morning on the road. The Spiders open the 2024 campaign with a win, while Army fell to 1-1.
How it Happened
In doubles, Cole Brashear/ Wiley handled business on court two, 6-0, over Sebastian/Ton (ARMY) to open the dual match while the Spider duo of Daniel Kliebhan and Paxton Pritchard won 6-2 on court one to clinch the doubles point for UR. Dylan Atkinson and Sebastian Miano led Huarte/Rooney (ARMY) on court three, 5-3, but the match was left unfinished.
In singles, Kliebhan picked up a huge win over Zhou (ARMY) on court number one, 6-4, 6-0, before the opposition would pick up their first point of the match as Ton (ARMY) defeated Brashear on court six, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Army again picked up another point on court four as Bodavula (ARMY) went toe-to-toe with Maino and picked up a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 win. Pritchard got Richmond back in the win column, handling business on court two, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 over Huarte (ARMY), but Army quickly responded with another singles point on court five as Atkinson fell 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 to Sebastian (ARMY) to tie the match at three. Wiley clinched the match on court three as the sophomore took the singles match over Haikal (ARMY) in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6.
