Beasley Goes Low to Lead Spiders at Evie Odom
10/05/2024 | Women's Golf
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Sophomore Maya Beasley paired four birdies with 13 pars and just one bogey to shoot a 3-under 67 Saturday at the Evie Odom Invitational, Richmond's first under-par round in four events this fall. Beasley's 3-under was the second-lowest round of any golfer Saturday and moved her 21 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for sixth at even-par (140).
As a team, the Spiders combined for a 9-over 289 in Round 2, their best 18-hole score this fall by a margin of nine shots. Through 36 holes, Richmond is tied for 12th in the 14-team field at 32-over par (592).
"Maya's score obviously helped us shoot our lowest round of the fall," said Spiders coach Calle Barlow. "Also, it gave the team some confidence that we can shoot good numbers even when putts don't go in the hole. It was also positive to not see lots of colors on the scorecards — green and red is good!"
The Spider closest to Beasley on the individual leaderboard is Olivia Wilkie, who's tied for 38th at 8-over par (148) after a second straight round of 74 (+4) Saturday. Freshman Caroline Thompson is three shots behind in a tie for 55th at 11-over par (151). The other two Spiders, freshman Katie Magner and junior Hannah Lydic, are tied for 62nd at 13-over par (153).
Richmond has played the par 5s at Princess Anne Country Club in a combined 1-under par through two rounds, best of any team in the field.
Sunday's final round will be streamed on the College Golf Network YouTube page as part of an agreement with Princess Anne Country Club. The Spiders will tee off beginning at 8:50 AM on the 10th hole.
