10/07/2024 | Men's Basketball
RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond Spiders men's basketball team was picked seventh in the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Preseason Poll, which was released by the conference Monday morning in advance of the league's media day at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Richmond, the defending A-10 regular season champions, received 230 points from a voting panel comprised of the league's 15 head coaches and 15 leading members of the media who cover the conference.
The group placed the Spiders just in front of Duquesne, the defending A-10 tournament champions, who received 222 points, including one first-place vote. Also receiving first-place votes were Loyola Chicago (2), Saint Louis (2), Saint Joseph's (5), Dayton (6), and VCU (14), which topped the poll with 421 points.
Richmond has now been picked seventh or better in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll in five of the last six seasons, a stretch that dates back to 2019-20. Richmond placed 11th in last year's Preseason Poll before going on to win a program-record 15 conference games and its first A-10 regular season championship.
Richmond's 2024-25 roster includes nine newcomers, the most in head coach Chris Mooney's 20 seasons at Richmond, and eight returners, including starting point guard DeLonnie Hunt, center Mike Walz, sharpshooter Jason Roche, and more. Fans wishing to purchase new season tickets can call the Richmond Athletics Ticket Office at 1-877-SPIDER-1. Single-game tickets and mini-plans will go on sale in mid-October.
