Traynor Claims CAA Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Richmond, Va. — University of Richmond redshirt freshman safety Matthew Traynor has been named this week's Coastal Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week after helping Richmond to a 27-24 victory over Campbell Saturday.
Traynor and the rest of the Spiders head to Hampton this weekend when they look for their ninth consecutive win. Kickoff is set for noon at Armstrong Stadium.
Traynor tallied a career-high 12 tackles as well as another career-best 2.0 tackles for loss and intercepted a pass in the first quarter during the victory at Campbell. The 12 tackles exceeded his previous best by five and the interception was the second of his career. Traynor served as a leader on the Spiders defense that held the Camels to just seven second-half points as the Spiders came back from a ten-point deficit.
With the win, Richmond earned sole ownership of first place in the Coastal Athletic Association standings, moved the Spiders to 8-2 overall and marked the team's eighth in a row, its longest regular-season win streak since 2009, and brought Richmond to a 6-0 record in the CAA, matching its best CAA start ever, also achieved in 2009.Traynor and the rest of the Spiders head to Hampton this weekend when they look for their ninth consecutive win.
