SpiderTV Announces Regional Broadcasts, Talent Lineup for Spider Basketball
11/04/2024 | Men's Basketball
RICHMOND, Va. — SpiderTV will produce a regional broadcast of 11 Spider Basketball games during the 2024-25 season, Richmond Athletics announced Monday, with six of those games airing on MASN and five on Monumental Sports Network.
The majority of the men's basketball games will feature Voice of the Spiders Bob Black on play-by-play along with former Richmond standout Scott Ungerer on commentary. Ungerer will be the primary analyst following the unexpected passing of Richmond Athletics Hall of Famer Greg Beckwith in May. Beckwith served for 21 seasons as analyst on Spider radio and TV broadcasts.
Men's basketball will honor Beckwith with a moment of silence at its season opener vs Mount Olive on November 6 at the Robins Center, where the men's basketball team will debut special shooting shirts in Beckwith's memory along with a patch they will wear on their uniform throughout the season. Beckwith's wife Julie and daughter Brittany will join the team on court during the pregame ceremony.
As a tribute to Beckwith, Richmond's TV and radio broadcasts of its November 9 game vs Marist will be play-by-play only, leaving Beckwith's analyst role unfilled. Black will handle the broadcast of the men's game November 9 vs Marist by himself on MASN and ESPN+. Matt Smith will be featured as the play-by-play announcer on the Spiders Sports Radio Network broadcast, which will commence following Spider Football's game at Campbell.
The team will also honor Beckwith during its game vs Davidson on January 25 as part of what has been re-named Greg Beckwith Alumni Weekend.
In addition to November 9, MASN will air five more men's basketball games during the season, televising Richmond's home games vs Belmont (Dec. 14), VMI (Dec. 21), Davidson (Jan. 25), Duquesne (Feb. 5), and George Mason.
Monumental Sports Network will air three men's games, broadcasting UR's Atlantic 10 opener vs George Washington (Dec. 31) and its matchups vs Loyola Chicago (Feb. 11) and Fordham (Feb. 15). Monumental will also air a pair of power-conference matchups from Richmond women's basketball, the defending regular season and conference tournament champions in the Atlantic 10. Richmond will host Georgetown on December 4 and host Texas on December 15, with both games airing on Monumental Sports.
As a member of the Atlantic 10, every Richmond basketball home game that is not broadcast nationally will also be available to stream on ESPN Plus, with SpiderTV handling the broadcast. All SpiderTV games are produced and directed by Richmond Athletics Video Specialist Blake Ellett.
