02/10/2024 | Women's Golf
MELBOURNE, Fla. — Spiders sophomore Hannah Lydic fired a 1-under 71 to lead Richmond in the opening round of the Columbia Classic Moon Golf event at Duran Golf Club Saturday. She registered 12 pars, four birdies, one bogey, and one double-bogey and is currently tied for fifth in the field of 90 with 36 holes remaining over the next two days.
"It felt great being back in competition again," said Lydic after Richmond's first competitive round since last October. "We all felt really good going into the tournament, and I'm happy we're right where we left off at our last even in the fall. The break did us good, we were able to work on our games and put in the time it takes to play higher level golf."
Fellow sophomore Olivia Wilkie shot a 2-over 74 in Round 1, equaling her lowest round of the season. She is tied for 19th. Freshman Maya Beasley is tied for 36th at 4-over (76), while senior Rory Weinfurther is at 7-over par, tied for 63rd place. Junior Christine Mandile is one shot further back at 8-over (80), tied for 69th place.
As a team, Richmond's round one score of 12-over (300) has the Spiders tied for sixth with Eastern Kentucky on the 16-team leaderboard. Old Dominion leads the event at 1-over par.
The Spiders will participate in Round 2 on Sunday and finish the event with 18 holes on Monday.
