Spiders in Seventh at Columbia Classic

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Spiders senior Rory Weinfurther shot a 1-under 71 to lead Richmond in the second round of the Columbia Classic Moon Golf event Sunday. Starting on the back nine, Weinfurther birdied the 14th and 15th holes and then stayed under par through the difficult front nine at Duran Golf Club.
"I would say the last five holes on the front nine are some of the tougher holes out there," said Weinfurther. "Today was all about finding good pace and staying in it the whole day because it was windier. I focused on hitting greens and enjoying the warm weather."
The Spiders combined for a team score of 299 (+11) Sunday and are in seventh place on the 16-team leaderboard at 23-over par (599).
Sunday was Weinfurther's second round under par this season and her first since Round 2 of the Nittany Lion Invitational on September 16. With only Monday's final round remaining, she is tied for 25th on the individual leaderboard at 6-over par (150).
Weinfurther is three strokes behind teammate Hannah Lydic, who is tied for 14th at 3-over par (147). Fellow Spider Olivia Wilkie is tied for 18th at 4-over after shooting a second consecutive round of 74 (+2) Sunday.
Freshman Maya Beasley is at 10-over (154), tied for 46th. She's four shots in front of Christine Mandile, who is in a tie for 66th among the 90 players on the individual leaderboard.
