WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team has the honor of highlighting senior Grace Townsend as this week's Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. This is Townsend's first weekly honor of her career, and the team's first Player of the Week honor since Maggie Doogan on 11/27/23 following the Vibrant Thanksgiving Classic in Des Moines, Iowa. Ally Sweeney picked up Rookie of the Week honors earlier this season on 12/18/23.
Townsend, a Midlothian, Va. native, helped lead the Spiders to two hard-fought wins this week including a 65-58 win at VCU on Wednesday, snapping the Rams' 12-game home win streak, and a 75-71 win over Loyola Chicago on Saturday inside the Robins Center. Townsend went a perfect 11 of 11 from the free throw line against VCU in addition to 23 points, four assists and four rebounds. Against LUC, she remained perfect at the charity stripe again, going 8 of 8 from the line and picking up 12 points, six assists and eight rebounds.
Townsend and the 23-4 Spiders continue conference play on Wednesday, as the team plays host to La Salle inside the Robins Center at 6 p.m. Richmond will then take on George Mason in Fairfax, Va. on Saturday at 3 p.m. for a top-five A-10 matchup.
