Three Podium Visits Highlight Day One of Indoor Track & Field Championships

Virginia Beach, Va. – The University of Richmond track and field team left day one of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships with three podium visits and a slew of personal and season-best performances.
Richmond's distance medley relay of Kyra Keurentjes (1,200m), Virginia Beringer (400), Caroline Donohoe (800) and Elizabeth Stockman (1,600m) broke the meet and Virginia Beach Sports Center facility record with a 11:30.38, coming in second to earn silver just behind La Salle (11:30.37).
Earlier in the meet, Alicia Dawson reached the podium for Richmond after she leaped 19-4.25 (5.90m) in the long jump to earn silver.
Madison Trippett entered the 5,000m race at No. 6 in the A-10 this season and ran a 16:54.60 to better her season best and take silver followed by Manon Stephen with a 17:39.48 for ninth, Laurel Kurtz with a 17:56.56 for 10th and Paige Joyce with a 18:22.34 for 22nd.
Elke Van der Westhuizen earned a trip to Saturday's 400m dash finals with a mark of 56.24 good enough for fourth place. Her time is an improvement of her previous personal best of 57.30 ran earlier this season and moves her to sixth all time for the Spiders.
Nina Lavelle ran a 57.88 for 11th while Kamyah Wright rounded out the group with a 59.56 for 20th.
Morgan Elliott clocked Richmond's fastest time in the 500 with a 1:17.42 for ninth, while Kamiah Wright finished with a 1:17.87 for 11th and Aylin Bruce recorded a 1:19.24 for 13th.
Two Spiders earned trips to the finals in the 60m dash with Gabrielle Cummings running a 7.67 for seventh and Alicia Dawson qualifying in eighth with a 7.69. Nina Lavelle finished just behind her teammates in ninth with a 7.72. Bliaklyn Clayton ran a 7.82 for 16th. Cummings' time of 7.67 ranks third all time for the Spiders, while Dawson's mark of 7.69 is tied for fifth.
Later on in the afternoon, Clayton ran a personal best 24.59 in the 200m dash to earn third and advance to Saturday's finals. Clayton's mark is an improvement of her 24.96 ran earlier this year and moves her to fourth all time for the Spiders. Elke Van der Westhuizen clocked a 25.04 for 11th, Gabrielle Cummings ran a 25.16 for 17th and Nina Lavelle rounded out Richmond finishers with a 25.16 for 24th.
The 800m trials saw Caroline Donohoe run away with the fastest time of the night when she clocked a 2:11.88 to take first, followed by Morgan Lyons who finished third with a 2:13.10. Freshman Ashley Bolesh rounded out Richmond in the 800m with a 2:18.39 for 14th.
The Spiders will send three to the 1,000m finals after Kyra Keurentjes ran the fastest time of the trials with a 2:52.40. Dylan Miller followed in sixth with a 2:56.11 and Isabel Blaylock finished eighth with a 2:57.60 showing. Emily Rzucidlo ran a 3:02.94 for 16th.
The Spiders will fight for championships tomorrow beginning with the mile run at 11:10 a.m. back at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
