King Named to USBWA Oscar Robertson Trophy, All-America Watch List
02/27/2024 | Men's Basketball
RICHMOND, Va. — Spiders guard Jordan King was one of 40 men's college basketball players named to the 2023-24 Oscar Robertson Trophy and All-America Watch List by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on Tuesday. King's inclusion means he is officially a candidate for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, given annually to the USBWA National Player of the Year, and the USBWA's 15-man All-America Team.
King is second in the Atlantic 10 conference in both scoring, at 18.8 points per game, and three-point field goal percentage, at 41.7, a rate that places him 15th in Division I. He has led the Spiders to a 20-7 record and a 12-2 mark in A-10 play that has Richmond atop the conference standings with four games to play.
King, who has been named A-10 Player of the Week twice this season, could become the first Spider to earn All-America honors since 2010-11, when Justin Harper was named to the Lute Olson All-America Team. (Jacob Gilyard earned Lefty Driesell All-America Defense honors in 2020-21 and 2021-22.)
The awards will be determined by the results of USBWA member voting, which will run through March 10. The All-America Team will be announced before the start of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, and the winner of the Oscar Robertson Trophy will be announced at the Final Four in Glendale, Ariz. from April 6-8.
