Spiders to Visit Virginia Tech Tuesday in NIT Opener

RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond Spiders men's basketball team will face Virginia Tech in the First Round of the National Invitation Tournament Tuesday at 9 PM, the NIT committee announced Sunday. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 from Cassell Coliseum.
The Spiders will be making their first NIT appearance since reaching the quarterfinals in 2021. It will be Richmond's fourth NIT appearance under Chris Mooney and its 10th postseason appearance under Mooney. Richmond reached the NIT quarterfinals under Mooney in 2015, 2017, and 2021. 2024 will be the 11th NIT appearance for Richmond in program history. UR is 11-10 all-time in NIT games.
The Spiders last faced Virginia Tech in 2009, falling on the road 62-48. This will be the 109th meeting all-time between the Spiders and Hokies, with VT leading the all-time series 69-39.
