Spiders Earn All-East Honors in Eleven Separate Events at ECAC/IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships

Boston, MA – The University of Richmond women's track and field and men's cross country programs ended the weekend at the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships with All-East honors in eleven separate events.
Richmond took 3rd overall place in the women's standings with 63 points. Cornell finished in 1st place (85 points) as James Madison followed in 2nd (73 points).
Elke Van der Westhuizen strongly represented the Spiders in the 200m and 400m. After finishing in 8th place in the 400m preliminaries, Van der Westhuizen fought back in the finals taking the bronze medal and 3rd place finish in the event, earning All-East honors at 55.88, the No. 4 time in program history. The 200m was just as successful for Van der Westhuizen as she took the 7th place finish at 24.89, earning another All-East nod. Her preliminary time of 24.80 was a personal best and No. 5 in program history.
The 4x800 squad of Virginia Beringer, Dylan Miller, Elizabeth Stockman and Morgan Lyons joined forces to win the gold medal and claim All-East honors in relay. The group finished at 8:52.62, No. 3 in program history.
Alicia Dawson continued her success in both the long jump and triple jump this weekend. Dawson claimed 1stplace in the long jump with a new program record and personal best of 6.13m. She finished 2nd in the triple jump at 12.45m. Both marks earned Dawson All-East honors through each event.
Virginia Beringer found major success in the 500m, taking the 2nd place finish and silver medal with a time of 1:13.00. This mark from Beringer stands as her updated personal best and the No. 3 time in program history. Beringer earned All-East honors with her outstanding performance in the event.
Caroline Donohoe and Morgan Lyons claimed top spots in the 800m finals for Richmond. Donohoe took the 1stplace finish and gold medal at 2:08.44, earning All-East honors in the event. Her preliminary mark of 2:07.44 now stands as her personal best in the 800m and No. 4 in program history. Lyons took the 6th place finish with a time of 2:11.77, also earning All-East honors.
Elizabeth Stockman, Dylan Miller and Isabel Blaylock dominated the 1000m, all earning All-East honors. Stockman was the first Spider to cross the finish line taking 4th place in the finals of the event with a mark of 2:50.81. Dylan Miller followed soon behind in 5th place at 2:51.70. Miller's mark now stands as a personal best in the event and No. 10 in program history. Blaylock finished in 8th place at 2:54.48, a personal best.
On the men's side of competition, the Spiders took 20th place overall out of 34 team entries.
Cooper Groat and William Tune ran the 1000m, taking 3rd and 5th place. Groat, visiting the podium for his silver medal, crossed the finish line at 2:30.92. Tune finished soon after at 2:31.38. Tune's preliminary time of 2:27.25 now stands as his personal best. Both Spiders earned All-East honors in the 1000m.
Jordan Bendura represented the Spiders in the 3K, taking the 8th place finish at 8:11.92, a new personal best for the senior. Bendura earned All-East honors with this mark.
Henry Haase added another All-East honor to the Richmond books, finishing 8th in the 5K. Haase crossed the finish line at 14:30.00, a personal best.

The Spiders look to continue their success from the indoor season as they begin to transition to outdoor competition. Richmond will host the Fred Hardy Invitational on March 22, the only home event for the program through the year.
