Spiders 8th as Play Suspended at Ironwood Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. — The Richmond Spiders were tied for eighth place at the Ironwood Invitational when Round 2 was suspended due to darkness with three teams still on the course Monday evening. Richmond completed its second round with a team score of 23-over par (311), putting the Spiders at 33-over par through 36 holes after their 10-over 298 in Round 1 Monday morning.
UR is tied with Longwood for eighth in the 15-team field. Delaware (+15), East Carolina (+17), and James Madison (+21) are in the top three spots on the leaderboard, but each will have to complete their second round Tuesday morning before proceeding to the third and final round.
Sophomore Hannah Lydic led Richmond with rounds of 74 and 75 Monday and is at 5-over par (149), tied for 11th in the field. Fellow sophomore Olivia Wilkie is one shot back in a tie for 15th place. Wilkie shot a career-best 70 (-2) in Round 1.
Junior Lauren Jones is tied for 42nd at 155 (+11), one shot in front of senior Rory Weinfurther, who is tied for 49th.
Freshman Heather Appelson at 18-over par (162), 77th in the field. Competing as an individual, junior Christine Mandile shot two rounds of 80 Monday and is tied for 74th at 16-over par (160).
The event will conclude with Round 3 Tuesday.
