Spiders Continue Successful Outdoor Season with Big Results at Larry Ellis Invitational

Princeton, NJ – The University of Richmond track & field program ended the weekend with another successful meet as a group of Spiders traveled to the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton. The team continues to find themselves winning big races against some of the best competition in the country, improving week-by-week in all events.
Virginia Beringer, Elke Van der Westhuizen, Gabrielle Cummings and Morgan Lyons put on an impressive performance in the 4x400 relay, taking the 1st place finish at 3:46.90. A group from Delaware fell behind the Spiders in 2nd place, finishing nearly 5 seconds after Richmond, the largest margin of time in the event between all teams.
Virginia Beringer also dominated the 400m with another 1st place mark. She beat out 34 other athletes with a time of 56.72. Nina Lavelle followed close behind finishing in 4th at 57.62.
Gabrielle Cummings has had an incredible freshman year and extended her success in this one. Cummings took the 8th place finish in the 100m dash at 12.29. The event pool held 41 competitors.
Elke Van der Westhuizen had a strong outing in the 200m dash finishing in 4th place amongst 31 other runners. She crossed the finish line at 24.44. Nina Lavelle took 8th place after Van der Westhuizen at 24.98.
Caroline Donohoe led Richmond in the 800m on Friday with the 7th place finish at 2:07.13. This is a personal best for the sophomore.
Madison Trippett and Dylan Miller represented the Spiders well in the 800m on Saturday. Trippett finished in 3rd with a personal best of 2:08.28 as Miller finished close behind in 6th with a time of 2:15.90.
Going back to Friday, Trippett ran an excellent 1500m with a mark of 4:21.66 to take 5th place.
On the men's side of action, Jordan Bendura led the group with a strong performance in the 5K. Bendura ended the distance with the 10th place finish at 14:17.92, a personal best for the senior cross country member.
Up next, the Spiders will make the short trip to Charlottesville to compete in the Virginia Challenge from April 19-20.
