RICHMOND, Va. — George Washington III, a 6'2" guard from Austin, Texas, will transfer to Richmond and play for the Spiders this upcoming season.
Washington III appeared in 22 games as a freshman at Michigan last season, totaling 26 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in 6.6 minutes per game. He scored a season-high 10 points, tied for second most on the Wolverines, at No. 2 Purdue on January 23.
Washington III arrived at Michigan following a decorated prep career at Chaminade-Julienne Catholic in Dayton, Ohio and Christian Academy in Louisville, Ky. Washington III was named Gatorade Ohio Basketball Player of the Year in 2023 after averaging 24.0 points per game and leading Chaminade-Julienne to a 26-3 record and league, district, and regional championships.
At Christian Academy, Washington III averaged more than 23 points per game in both his junior (2021-22) and sophomore (2020-21) seasons. As a junior, he led Christian Academy to its first 20-win campaign since the 2016-17 season. Washington III originally signed with Michigan in November 2022 as a consensus top 100 national recruit in the class of 2023.
Washington III is the third member of Richmond's 2024 transfer class, joining forwards Jonathan Beagle, the 2023 America East Rookie of the Year at Albany, and Dusan Neskovic, who scored 16 points per game at Dartmouth last season.
