Women's Track & Field Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honors for 22nd Consecutive Year; Five Spiders Listed as All-Academic Honorees

Richmond, Va. -Â For the 22nd-consecutive year, the University of Richmond women's track and field program has been honored as an NCAA D1 All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

"It's been an exciting year and one of our most successful track & field seasons in history," Director of Track & Field Lori Taylor said. This team of student-athletes set school records, won Atlantic 10 Conference Championship individual titles, qualified for the NCAA Championships, earned runner-up team titles at the Atlantic 10 Indoor and Outdoor Championships and earned the runner-up team title at the ECAC Outdoor Championships. Along with their athletic achievements, they stayed focused on their purpose and maintained a cumulative team GPA above 3.0. Our student-athletes know we set program expectations high and one of those is to continue the academic success established by our alumni. As a department and staff we embrace the strong tradition of academic excellence our University of Richmond is known for. Our team members take pride in their academic achievements. Since the day Steve and I first arrived here at the University of Richmond, we have set this as a program goal each year and have affirmed our commitment to academic success to mirror athletic success. Our campus faculty know this is a primary part of our team goals and they continue to support and challenge our student-athletes in the classroom."

The Spider women's track and field program boasted a team cumulative GPA of 3.44 for the 2024 season.

"The team has achieved above a 3.0 cumulative GPA for 22 consecutive years. That's an impressive achievement each team member has contributed to. It is very exciting and truly remarkable," Taylor added. "Our athletes recognize the importance of their education as the primary reason they are here at the University of Richmond. I am very proud of this group of young women as they continue to balance demanding class schedules as a well as a competitive competition schedule which requires extensive travel."

The criteria for a team to be named an NCAA Division I All-Academic Team the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Along with the team recognition, five Spiders earned NCAA All-Academic honors as they were named to the NCAA D1 All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Virginia Beringer, Alicia Dawson, Caroline Donohoe, Elizabeth Stockman and Madison Trippett completed that list.

"Along with the women's team earning All-Academic Team honors for the 22nd consecutive year and a successful year athletically, these women have been a corner stone to the success," Director of Track & Field Lori Taylor said.  "Ginny, Alicia, Caroline, Elizabeth and Madison were focused and their achievements this winter and spring show their dedication both in and out of the classroom. Setting program records and winning events and titles were a common occurrence for these women. Their academic success combined with their athletic achievements are a great benchmark for those who follow. Qualifying for the NCAA Championships as individuals and leading inside the classroom as well as within the team are all part of who they are."

A Health Studies major, Elizabeth Stockman competed in the 1500m and 3K Steeplechase at the 2024 NCAA Championships East Preliminary Round. Stockman qualified for the NCAA Championships 1500m with a 4:15.80 mark at the Penn Relays as she broke the program record in the event and placed 6th at the historic meet. The following day she split 3:21.73 for the 1200M leg of the Spiders Distance Medley Relay which ran 11:03.47 to rank 9th in the NCAA and moved the Spiders to #25 on the NCAA Outdoor DMR All-Time Program List. She later went on to win the gold medal at the Atlantic 10 Championships in the 1500M event running 4:17.00. Her best mark in the 3K Steeplechase was set at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships as she clocked 10:25.02 for second place. She was a member of the winning 4X800m relay (8:42.18) at the ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships splitting 2:07.43 for the third leg of the Spiders quartet. Following the NCAA Championships, she finished second (4:42.61) in the Collegiate Road Mile National Championships close behind teammate, Madison Trippett (4:36.31). Stockman finished the 2023-2024 season earning seven Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honors through the cross country, indoor and outdoor seasons (x1 cross country, x2 indoor, x4 outdoor).

Alicia Dawson, a Business (Management) graduate student, qualified for the NCAA Championships East Preliminary Round in the long jump and the triple jump. Her qualifying mark for the long jump of 6.16m (20'02.5") and the triple jump (12.68m /41'07.25") came at the ECAC Outdoor Championships as she claimed gold medals in both. Her qualifying mark in the triple jump of 12.68m shattered the Spiders fourteen-year program record which was previously set at 12.02m in 2010 by Megan Ney. For her long jump and triple jump wins, Dawson was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the 2024 ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She ended the regular season nationally ranked No. 35 in the triple jump and No. 42 in the long jump.

A Biology major, Madison Trippett had a great year starting with a pair of wins in the Liberty Kickoff 3k (9:36.94) and followed with a 5k win at the Virginia Tech Invitational running 16:57.78.  At the Rutgers Invitational she placed 2nd in the 3k (9:29.60) and 4th in the Mile (4:46.89). At Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational, she ran 4:43.19 for the Mile and anchored the Spider Distance Medley Relay 1600m leg (4:41.64) to second place running a top 15 NCAA mark of 11:10.35. She had an impressive Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Championships placing runner-up in the Mile (4:51.94) and 5k (16:54.60) while leading the Spiders 4x800m relay to victory with their 8:53.60 performance.

During the outdoor season, Trippett qualified to compete in the 1500m alongside teammate Elizabeth Stockman for the 2024 NCAA Championships East Preliminary Round. She ended the regular season ranked nationally at No. 40 in the event after setting her qualifying mark of 4:17.98 with the 2nd place finish at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Along with her 1500m qualification, Trippett had a successful run in the 5K at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, taking the gold medal with a personal best of 16:30.85. In section 2 of the Penn Relays 1500m, she finished 2nd in a photo finish running 4:19.44. The following day she split 4:38.98 for the 1600M leg of the Spiders Distance Medley Relay which ran 11:03.47 to rank 9th in the NCAA and moved the Spiders to #25 on the NCAA Outdoor DMR All-Time Program List. She was a member of the winning 4X800m relay (8:42.18) at the ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships splitting 2:07.32 for the second leg for the Spiders. Following the NCAA Championships she repeated as the Collegiate Road Mile National Champion running 4:36.31 for the mile distance.

Virginia Beringer, a Business Administration major also had a great year. During the indoor season she split 55.91 on the 400M leg of the Distance Medley Relay at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational as the Spiders placed second running a top 15 NCAA mark of 11:10.35, and she also ran the open 800m in 2:09.36. She was a 3-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference honoree, twice indoor as a member of the winning 4x400M relay (3:46.40) and the runner-up DMR team (11:30.39). During the outdoor A10 Championships she anchored the Spider to victory in the 4x400M relay (3:43.76). She was a 4-time ECAC All-East honoree, twice indoor placing 2nd in the 500m (1:13.00) and as a member of the Spiders winning 4x800m (8:54.62) and twice outdoor placing 7th in the 800m (2:10.98) and as anchor of the Spiders winning 4x400m (3:43.02). At Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational she won the 400m (56.72), ran 2:10.81 in the 800m and anchored the Spiders 4x400m to victory (3:46.90). She followed that with a big Penn Relays weekend where she split 2:10.61 on the anchor leg of the Spiders 4x800m relay which ran a NCAA top 12 performance of 8:38.94. The following day she split 55.74 for the 400m leg of the Spiders Distance Medley Relay which ran 11:03.47 to rank 9th in the NCAA and moved the Spiders to #25 on the NCAA Outdoor DMR All-Time Program List.Â

Caroline Donohoe pursues a double major in Biology and Health Studies. In a breakout season she showed consistency and competitiveness throughout the indoor and outdoor seasons. During the indoor season she split 2:09.13 on the 800M leg of the Distance Medley Relay at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational helping the Spiders place second running a top 15 NCAA mark of 11:10.35 and she also ran the open 800m in 2:09.36. At Rutgers University's Scarlet Knight Invitational held at the NYC Armory she moved into the Spiders top 5 list in the 600m (1:32.49) and returned to run the 800m in 2:10.62. She earned ECAC All-East honors in the indoor 800m running 2:07.44 in the prelim and 2:08.44 in the final for the bronze medal and during the ECAC Outdoor Championships she earned All-East honors claiming the runner-up spot in the 800m (2:08.27) and as a members of the Spiders winning 4x400m (3:43.02). She was also a 4-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference honoree claiming silver medals in the 800m (2:09.36) and the DMR (11:30.39) and during the outdoor championships she claimed 3rd in the 800m (2:08.00) and 4x800m.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA Proof of Performance list provided by TFRRS.org.

For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
