Bussiere Scores in Richmond Debut, Spiders Draw with Chanticleers in 2024 Opener

CONWAY, S.C. – Behind four saves from McKenna Dalfonso and a stunning header from Brigitte Bussiere, the University of Richmond women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie on the road at Coastal Carolina Thursday evening to open the 2024 season. With the draw, the Spiders move to 0-0-1 on the year.

How it Happened
Both teams exchanged bouts of possession in the first half before Coastal Carolina broke through in the 62nd minute after a scramble inside the box. Elle Dziadzio picked up a yellow card in the 68th minute before Bussiere was able to score off a cross sent in by Coleman to level the score at one. Sofia Mancino would have a final look on frame in the 88th minute, but the Spiders were unable to find the back of the net for the 1-1 draw.
Notes on the Game
The Spiders begin a four-game home stand beginning on Aug. 22 versus Longwood at 5 p.m. for Orientation Day at President's Field at River Road. Richmond will then welcome Howard to campus on Aug. 25 for Senior Day followed by Wake Forest on Aug. 29. Finally, the Spiders will welcome Delaware on Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. to round out the home stand.

- Hutton paced the Spiders with four shots, while Richmond ended the game with six total shots, three on frame.
- McKenna Dalfonso played the full 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves including a penalty kick save in the 68th minute.
- Bussiere recorded her first collegiate goal while Coleman posted her seventh career assist.
- The Spiders picked up three yellow cards in the match, Roesing in the 54th minute, Dziadzio in the 68th minute and a team-issued yellow card in the 86th minute
- The draw marks the first time the Spiders tied in a season opener since 2019 (Eastern Carolina, T, 1-1).

- The all-time series against CCU moved to 2-0-2 in favor of Richmond.
