MANAHAWKIN, NJ – Sophomores Clara Larripa, Valen Luna Paratore and Freya MacKay have been named to the 2024 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Watchlist. The trio joins 168 other student-athletes from 54 institutions for this season's watchlist, including 10 from two other Atlantic 10 Conference opponents.
Â
This NFHCA watchlist is intended to showcase those field hockey student-athletes with the strongest potential for consideration to the current year's NFHCA All-Region and All-American teams. To be nominated for the 2024 NFHCA Watchlist, student-athletes must have been previously recognized for their outstanding field hockey abilities within the past two years (NFHCA All-Region, NFHCA All-American, All-Conference, Senior Nexus Championship selection, NCAA All-Tournament Team, and/or U.S. National or International Team roster) and the student-athlete's head coach must be an active NFHCA member.
Â
Larripa, a 2024 preseason All Atlantic 10 selection, looks to build upon a stellar freshman season with Spider head coach Martu Loncarica's La Salle program in 2023. The Buenos Aires native led the Explorers with 27 points on 12 goals and three assists, including four game-winning goals. Last season, she scored the game-winner over VCU to secure La Salle's first A-10 tournament berth since 2011. She also collected 2023Â A-10 First Team and NFHCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team accolades after pacing the conference in goals and ranking second in game-winning goals and third in total points.
Â
Luna Paratore, also a native of Buenos Aires, joins the Spider program for her first collegiate season in 2024. She has played with the Argentina U21national team since 2022 while playing with the first division of Gimnasia y Esgrima de Buenos Aires (GEBA) club team. Luna Paratore also played with the U19 Buenos Aires squad and helped the team to a first-place finish in 2023. Earlier this year, she was selected to play on the senior Buenos Aires team.
Â
MacKay, a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, garnered A-10 All-Rookie Team honors in 2023 after starting 17 of 18 contests at center back as a key member of the defense. She finished her rookie season with five points on one goal and three assists. She tallied her first collegiate points with an assist against American and her first collegiate goal against Stanford, converting a penalty stroke. MacKay also collected a defensive save against Lock Haven.
