
Beasley Leads Spiders on Day 1 at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Sophomore Maya Beasley carded rounds of 76 (+4) and 72 (E) in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Nittany Lion Invitational Saturday to lead all other Spiders by three shots. At 4 strokes over par, Beasley is tied for 16th among the 83 players in the field. As a team, Richmond is in 13th place at +43 (619).
The closest Spider to Beasley Saturday was freshman Katie Magner, who shot a 75 (+3) and 76 (+4) in her first two collegiate rounds. Magner, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 34th. Fellow freshman Caroline Thompson, also competing as an individual, is the only other Spider in the top 50. Thompson opened with an 80 (+8) in Round 1 and added a 74 (+2) in Round 2 Saturday afternoon. She is tied for 50th at 10-over par (154).
Senior Lauren Jones is one stroke back in a tie for 57th, and three Spiders are grouped closely behind her, with junior Olivia Wilkie at +14 (tied for 67th), senior Christine Mandile at +15 (tied for 69th), and junior Hannah Lydic at +17 (tied for 73rd).
Sophomore Heather Appelson is the final Spider competing as an individual. She's tied for 78th at 21-over par (165).
Sunday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM.
