STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Richmond women's golf team finished 13th in the season-opening Nittany Lion Invitational Sunday. The Spiders recorded a team total of 933 (+69) for the 54-hole event. Princeton won the tournament with a score of 874 (+10).
Richmond's top finisher was sophomore Maya Beasley, who played her three rounds in 9-over par (225). Beasley tied for 21st among the 83 individual players in the field.
Senior Lauren Jones shot UR's lowest round Sunday, carding a 3-over 75 to finish the event at 14-over par (230), tied for 38th place — an increase of 19 spots from her position entering Round 3.
The two freshmen on Richmond's roster, both competing as individuals, finished within one shot of each other. Katie Magner placed 46th at 16-over par (232), while Caroline Thompson was 50th at 17-over.
Christine Mandile opened her senior season with a tie for 69th at 23-over (239), two shots in front of junior Olivia Wilkie, who tied for 71st.
Junior Hannah Lydic was tied for 74th at 27-over par (243). Sophomore Heather Appelson, competing as an individual, was close behind at 31-over par (placing 76th).
Richmond will return to action on September 23-24 at the Cavalier Regional Preview in Charlottesville, Va.
"We will be working on lots of approach shots and putting from five feet and in," said coach Calle Barlow of how Richmond will spend the time between events. "This group works too hard to shoot what we shot this weekend."
