Richmond Athletics & Athlete's Thread Partner to Create Custom Apparel for Spider Student-Athletes
09/19/2024 | General, Compliance
RICHMOND, Va. — For the first time ever, Spiders fans will be able to purchase the official merchandise of their favorite Spider student-athlete as Richmond Athletics has partnered with custom apparel provider Athlete's Thread, the organizations jointly announced Thursday. Spiders who opt into an agreement with Athlete's Thread will have the chance to create personalized online stores that offer officially licensed apparel featuring their Name, Image, and Likeness. The partnership is in line with Richmond Athletics' continued efforts to ensure that Spider student-athletes are able to fully realize the benefits of licensing their NIL rights under existing NCAA regulations.
Apparel created by student-athletes will be available for online purchases in the Athlete's Thread University of Richmond merchandise store in collaboration with the UR SpiderShop. Merchandise will feature the official logos and marks of Richmond Athletics, along with details that customize each piece for an individual Spider student-athlete.
Athlete's Thread works with more than 100 colleges and universities and has provided over 10,000 athletes with apparel, allowing them to profit from the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness and build their own brand.
More than 100 Spiders student-athletes currently have their own apparel — including replica jerseys, jackets, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and more — available. New items will be added as additional Spiders opt into a licensing agreement with Athlete's Thread.
Those interested in supporting Richmond student-athletes' efforts to benefit from the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness can also visit the Richmond Spiders NIL Marketplace to explore endorsement deals or contribute directly to The Spiders' Collective, an independent group that is working to recruit, retain, and reward some of our most successful student-athletes.
