Women’s Basketball Unveils Non-Conference Schedule
09/19/2024 | Women's Basketball
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team announced its 2024-25 non-conference slate on Thursday, featuring five matchups inside the Robins Center, three true road contests and five neutral-site games, highlighted by the West Palm Beach Classic in West Palm Beach, Fla. Dec. 20-21.
"We really wanted to challenge our team this season, which we absolutely have done with this group of opponents," said Head Coach Aaron Roussell. "We set our goals high for the kind of non-conference slate we wanted, and I think we exceeded what we had hoped for. I'm counting on the tough battles that we will be tested with early to pay huge dividends at the end of the season as well as give our student-athletes great experiences playing against top-ranked teams."
The Spiders open the season on Nov. 4 at Temple in Philadelphia, Pa. before playing host to Morgan State on Nov. 9 inside the Robins Center for the home opener. Three days later, the Spiders will travel to Fairfield, who was a NCAA Tournament team in 2023-24 and went 20-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Following the matchup with the Stags, Richmond will host two home games as Gardner-Webb comes to the Robins Center on Nov. 15 and William & Mary follows suit on Nov. 21. The Spiders then travel down to Boone, N.C. for a contest against Appalachian State on Nov. 24. The Spiders will then play in the Daytona Beach Classic over Thanksgiving week, taking on Oakland on Nov. 29, and Big 12 opponent Oklahoma State on Nov. 30. Richmond will take on OSU for the second time in program history and first since 1996.
After the Daytona Beach Classic, the Spiders return to the Robins Center on Dec. 4 to host Georgetown, who made a run in the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) in 2023-24. Richmond will then take on Columbia on Dec. 8 at the Henrico Sports & Events Center for a neutral contest.
"We are very excited to get an early experience at Henrico in December, a huge kudos to the A-10 and our administration for allowing that to work," Roussell said. "Our returners know how electric that atmosphere can be and it will be great for our new players to get that experience in there as well."
The Spiders will look to round out the out-of-conference slate with a trio of top-ranked programs in the SEC and ACC. Texas makes a visit to the Robins Center on Dec. 15 before the West Palm Beach Classic, where the Spiders will take on Clemson on Dec. 20 and Tennessee on Dec. 21.
Tip-off times and TV broadcast information for all Richmond women's basketball non-conference games will be updated on RichmondSpiders.com as it becomes available. UR's full schedule, including conference games, will be announced later this month.
Roussell, who enters his sixth season at the helm of the Spiders, welcomes seven new faces to the roster in Steph Ouderkirk, Annika Manthy, Alyssa Jimenez, Payton Richard, Sam Dewey, Faith Alston and Alicia Newell. Jada Green, Anna Camden, Ally Sweeney, Addie Budnik, Courtney Swider, Rachel Ullstrom, Katie Hill and Maggie Doogan all return to the Spider roster.
