CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Freshmen Katie Magner and Caroline Thompson fired identical 5-over rounds of 76 to lead the Spiders in the final round of the Cavalier Regional Preview Tuesday. Thompson limited the damage on a long, soggy layout at Birdwood Golf Course, recording 13 pars to five bogeys. Magner carded four of Richmond's five birdies during the day, helping to offset a double and triple bogey. The Spiders managed a team score of 25-over par (311) in Round 3 to finish the event at 77-over par (929), 12th in the stacked 12-team field.
Sophomore Maya Beasley was Richmond's lowest finisher in the event at 18-over par (231), tied for 45th. Thompson was two shots back in a tie for 53rd.
Magner tied with senior Lauren Jones and two other golfers at 25-over par (238) in 59th place. Juniors Olivia Wilkie, competing as an individual, and Hannah Lydic placed 65th and 67th at 28- and 30-over par, respectively.
The Spiders will return to the course quickly, traveling to the Pirate Collegiate Classic in Greenville, N.C. next Monday and Tuesday.
