Clutch Performances Propel Spiders Past Navy Sunday Afternoon

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team secured its first win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Navy on Friday afternoon at the Raintree Swim & Racquet Club. Richmond improved to 1-1, while Navy dropped to 2-2.
How it Happened
Richmond claimed the doubles point with strong performances on courts one and two. Spider duo of Lara Bakhaya and Andrea Campodonico earned a 6-2 victory over Shanker/Tannenbaum (Navy) on court one, while Sofia Barbulescu and Elizabeth Novak picked up a 6-2 win against Eklund/Jordaan (Navy) on court two. Navy responded with a 6-3 win on court three as Fermo/Gu (Navy) defeated Claire Le Du and Lainey O'Neil.
In singles action, Barbulescu led the way for Richmond with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 victory over No. 87 Tannenbaum (Navy) on court one. Bakhaya followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win against Shanker (Navy) on court three, and Le Du added a 6-1, 6-1 rout over G. Li (Navy) on court five. Navy fought back with wins on courts two, four and six, but Richmond took the win, 4-3.
