RICHMOND, Va. — University of Richmond women's basketball standouts Maggie Doogan and Rachel Ullstrom have been named to the preseason watch list for the 2026 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award presented by Her Hoop Stats, the organization announced Wednesday.
Doogan, a senior forward, returns as the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year after averaging 17.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game last season. She shot 55.5 percent from the field and 40.6 percent from three-point range, ranking among the top three in the league in scoring and field-goal percentage. The A-10 Preseason First Team select was one of just four Spiders ever to eclipse 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds in three seasons.
Doogan posted 12 games of 20 or more points, including a career-best 37 points against George Mason. The Broomall, Pa. native, capped her breakout junior campaign with 30 points and 15 rebounds against Georgia Tech for the program's first NCAA Tournament win before adding 27 points against top-seeded UCLA in the Second Round.
Ullstrom, an Auburn, Mass. native, joins Doogan on the preseason list after earning Atlantic 10 First Team honors in 2025, and All-A-10 Preseason First Team honors this season. She averaged 15.3 points while shooting 53.8 percent from the field, 42.3 percent from three and 84.9 percent at the line. Ullstrom became just the 11th Spider to reach 1,000 career points and set the Richmond single-game record with 11 three-pointers in a 35-point performance against Oakland.
She scored in double figures in 27 games, including seven games of 20 or more points, and ranked third in the league in three-point percentage. A USA Basketball 3x3 standout this summer, Ullstrom also helped the United States capture the 2025 Nations League Americas title in Chile.
Her Hoop Stats recognized 25 student-athletes representing 19 teams and 12 conferences on this year's preseason list. Doogan and Ullstrom are among five Atlantic 10 players to earn a spot, marking the league's most ever on a single preseason list.
The Becky Hammon Award, first presented in 2020, honors the top mid-major player in NCAA Division I women's basketball. The midseason watch list of 15 players will be released in January, followed by semifinalists in February and finalists in March, with the winner announced during the NCAA Women's Final Four.
Richmond opens the 2025-26 season Nov. 4 against Mount St. Mary's inside the Robins Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
