RICHMOND, Va. — University of Richmond women's basketball senior forward Maggie Doogan has been named to the preseason watch list for both the 2026 Katrina McClain Award, presented by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Coaches Association, and the 2025-26 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Watch List, presented by AXIA Time.
The McClain Award honors the nation's top power forward in Division I women's college basketball and is named after two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year Katrina McClain. The Naismith Trophy, presented annually by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, recognizes the most outstanding women's college basketball player in the nation.
Doogan returns as the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year after averaging 17.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game last season. She ranked third in the league in scoring, second in field-goal percentage at 55.5 percent and seventh in three-point percentage at 40.6. She recorded 12 games of 20 or more points, including a career-high 37 against George Mason, and added 40 blocks to finish sixth in the conference.
Doogan, a Broomall, Pa. native, became one of just four players in Richmond history to reach 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds in three seasons. She capped her junior campaign with 30 points and 15 rebounds against Georgia Tech and 27 points against top-seeded UCLA in the NCAA Tournament, helping the Spiders capture their first NCAA win in program history.
Doogan is one of 20 players nationally named to the preseason McClain Award watch list and one of 50 players recognized on the Naismith Trophy list. The McClain Award list will be narrowed to 10 in January and five finalists in February, while the Naismith Trophy Midseason 30 will be announced later in the season. Both awards will be presented during the 2026 Women's Final Four in Indianapolis.
