Richmond Caps Home Fall Event with Strong Showing at River City Open

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team wrapped up its home fall event with a solid showing at the River City Open, earning multiple singles and doubles victories against opponents from Navy, Bucknell, William & Mary and James Madison.
The Spiders opened Friday with five singles matches, highlighted by three wins. Paxton Pritchard battled to a three-set victory over Navy's Jason Kim, while Nathan Germino outlasted Steve Nguyen in a deciding tiebreaker and Cole Brashear earned his first collegiate win, topping Navy's Ethan Garcia 6-3, 6-2. In doubles play, Richmond swept all three matches as Sewell/Brashear, Pritchard/Rathmanner and Cohen/Germino each picked up victories.
On Saturday, Otto Sewell powered past Bucknell's Shiv Singh 6-3, 6-2, and Sam Rathmanner collected another singles win before his opponent retired. Pritchard/Rathmanner stayed perfect in doubles with a 6-4 win over Navy, while Sewell/Brashear and Cohen/Germino fell in tight 6-4 contests.
Richmond closed out the weekend Sunday with a pair of dominant singles performances as Pritchard defeated Navy's Zachary Quattro 6-0, 6-2 and Brashear cruised past James Madison's Grant Kroodsma 6-1, 6-1. The duo of Pritchard/Rathmanner capped a perfect weekend in doubles, improving to 3-0 with a 6-2 victory over James Madison's Damian Sancilio and Grant Kroodsma.
