Spiders Roll Past William & Mary Behind Doogan’s Double-Double

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Maggie Doogan posted her 13th career double-double as the University of Richmond women's basketball team picked up its first road win of the season in an 84-58 output at William & Mary Wednesday night. The Spiders improved to 2-1 on the young season while the Tribe fell to 1-2.

How it Happened
Maggie Doogan and Tierra Simon combined for four quick points before William & Mary posted a jumper at the 8:23 mark. After exchanging buckets, the Tribe tied the game at six before Ally Sweeney sparked an 8-0 run with efforts courtesy of Doogan and Rachel Ullstrom for a 14-6 Spider lead. After a 4-0 spurt from the opposition, an and-one play from Doogan ended the quarter with the Spiders ahead 17-10.
Two free throws from W&M opened the second 10 minutes before Ullstrom responded with a layup on the other end. The Tribe answered with a triple before a 13-0 run was sparked by a pair of Doogan free throws. After exchanging a few points, Shaneka Campbell posted five points while Doogan added a layup following a Tribe jumper to end the half with Richmond leading 44-24.
Out of the break, Doogan scored a layup before the opposition posted three straight triples to cut Richmond's lead to 13 at 46-33. Sweeney ended the scoring drought with a trey to push ahead 49-33 at the 5:21 mark. The two teams continued to exchange points, with Richmond maintaining its 20-point lead at 58-38 off a pair of Doogan free throws with 41 seconds left in the third. W&M managed two layups as the Spiders entered the final 10 minutes up by 16 at 58-42.
William & Mary again opened the final 10 minutes with a layup before Rayne Wright answered with a layup to spark a 4-0 spurt for a 62-44 lead. Each team added a pair of free throws before exchanging triples as UR held its 18-point lead, 67-49, with 6:35 left in the quarter. After a few more buckets from W&M, the Spider duo of Doogan and Ullstrom combined for seven points to rebuild the lead to 78-54 before a tip-in layup from William & Mary cut it to 78-56 with 2:55 left. Two free throws from Ullstrom, a jumper from Campbell and a last-second layup from Jada Green ended the scoring as Richmond picked up its first road win, 84-58.
Notes on the Game
Richmond continues its road slate on Saturday, taking on Columbia at 7 p.m. in New York City before returning home to play host to Temple on Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. and Navy on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. for Taylor Swift Night and camper reunion.

- Maggie Doogan paced the team with her 13th career double-double, finishing with 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 12 rebounds. She was just shy of a triple-double with eight assists.
- Ally Sweeney and Rachel Ullstrom also finished in double figures, as Sweeney posted 10 points and six rebounds while Ullstrom added 19 points, two rebounds and two assists.
- Ava Persichetti made her first collegiate start, finishing with eight points, six rebounds and two assists.
- Rayne Wright scored her first collegiate points, finishing with nine points and four boards.
- Payton Richard scored her first points of the season, finishing with two points and three rebounds.
- Shaneka Campbell posted her first career triple in the second quarter. She finished with seven points and one rebound.
- As a team, Richmond shot 32-of-58 (55.2%) from the floor, 8-of-18 (44.4%) from deep and 12-of-13 (92.3%) from the free throw line. In addition, Richmond recorded 42 rebounds, 16 assists, three blocks and seven steals. Richmond's reserves outscored W&M's bench 20-8, while the team recorded 46 points in the paint and 21 points off 10 Tribe turnovers.
- Doogan moved into ninth on Richmond's all-time scoring list, bringing her career total to 1,497 points. She surpassed Abby Oliver (1,488 career points; 2008-12).
- Richmond outscored W&M 27-14 in the second quarter to build a 20-point halftime lead.
- After the Tribe tied the game at six, Richmond led the rest of the game.
