EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond's men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships this morning at Panorama Farms. The women finished 17th out of 36 teams and were the top Atlantic 10 Conference team in the region and the men finished 26th out of 33 teams.
Sophomore Hallie Muniz led the women, finishing 67th at 20:54.0.
Senior Mollie Fenn finished at 21:35.4 (101st) and senior Brooke Reif followed at 21:43.1 (109th). "The women fought hard for 17th in the NCAA Southeast Region, three places better than last season and our best team finish of the season," said Director of Track and Head Women's Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Lori Taylor.
"Competing in the largest region in the NCAA, which includes many top 10 nationally ranked programs, the women were aggressive at the start, stayed tough in the middle and finished strong to beat William & Mary (18th) and A-10 opponents George Mason (20th), Davidson (22nd) and VCU."
On the men's side, senior Henry Haase led Richmond and finished 120th at 32:23.7.
Senior William Marhold finished 133rd with a personal-best 32:42.5, and senior Jason Latina placed 166th at 33:19.1. Freshman Bennett Wright posted a personal-best 34:34.8 (208th) and junior Carter Bruns followed at 34:40.2 (212th).
"Today was tough with Andy (Condon) going down early, but the team battled hard to finish the season," said Head Men's Cross Country and Assistant Track and Field Coach Steve Taylor. "This year had its ups and downs, and we've learned where we need to grow. We'll be hosting this event in two years, and we're determined to be noticeably stronger and improved."
The Spiders completed their season but will look to compete in the USATF Senior and U20 National Championships in Portland, Ore., on Dec. 6-7.
