Doogan, O’Neil, Roussell, Men's Lacrosse Named Finalists for the 2026 RVA Sports Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – Maggie Doogan, Aidan O'Neil, Aaron Roussell and the Richmond men's lacrosse program have been named finalists for the 2026 RVA Sports Awards. Doogan and O'Neil are in the running for the Female and Male Athletes of the Year categories, respectfully, while Roussell is a Coach of the Year nominee. The Spider men's lacrosse program is up for Moment of the Year.
The RVA Sports awards recognizes local athletic achievements from the past year and honors those who aim to better the Richmond Region through sport.

Doogan averaged 17 points, 7.1 points, 3.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game as she led the Spiders to a 28-7 record and second-straight Atlantic 10 regular season title in 2024-25. She helped the program to an at-large NCAA Tournament berth and the program's first NCAA Tournament victory defeating the nine seed Georgia Tech. In the victory over Georgia Tech, Doogan became the second women in the last 20 years to post 30 points, 15 rebounds and five assists in a NCAA Tournament game. She collected A-10 Player of the Year honors, as well as Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year semifinalist accolades. In June, she was attended the USA Basketball Team Trials.
O'Neil paced the Spider men's lacrosse program to a 14-4 record in spring 2025 with 29 goals and a team-high 22 assists for 51 points, 10th in a single season in UR program history. He collected A-10 Offensive Player of the Year honors, as well as USA Lacrosse and USILA All-America Honorable Mention accolades as he raced to 100 points in just 36 career games.
Roussell guided the Spider women's basketball program to a 28-7 record in 2024-25, including going 17-1 in Atlantic 10 action to win a second-straight A-10 regular season title. He also led the squad to the program's first NCAA Tournament win as UR defeated nine seeded Georgia Tech, 74-49, in the first-round action at UCLA's Pauley Pavillon. Rousell was named 2025 A-10 Coach of the Year, Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year and ECAC Coach of the Year. In November 2025, the Spiders also collected the program's first AP Top 25 ranking.
The 2025 Richmond men's lacrosse squad earned the program's sixth NCAA Tournament berth after winning the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and was sent to face heavily favored eight seed North Carolina in the first round. Facing a 4-0 deficit 21 minutes into the game, Lucas Littlejohn, with the first of his four goals, got the Spiders on the board in the 25th minute of action. Down 5-2 at the half, UR exploded for seven goals in the third quarter, led by two goals by Lukas Olsson and two more by Littlejohn to head into the final 15 minutes of action at 9-all. UNC got the first goal of the fourth quarter before the Spiders flipped the momentum and fired off the final four goals to capture the program's first NCAA Tournament victory 13-10 over UNC in Chapel Hill.
