Women’s Tennis Picked Second in A-10 Preseason Poll, Campodonico and Barbulescu Highlight All-Conference Honors

RICHMOND, Va. –The University of Richmond women's tennis team was selected to finish second in the 2025 Atlantic 10 Conference Preseason Poll, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Massachusetts topped the poll with 160 points and six first-place votes, while Richmond followed closely with 153 points and three first-place votes. VCU (141 points, three first-place votes), Fordham (137 points, one first-place vote) and Davidson (112) rounded out the top five. George Washington (97), Rhode Island (96), Dayton (72), Duquesne (67), Saint Louis (67), St. Bonaventure (30), George Mason (27) and Saint Joseph's (24) completed the rankings.
In addition to the poll, freshman Sofia Barbulescu and graduate Andrea Campodonico earned spots on the 2025 Preseason All-Conference Team.
Campodonico, in her fifth season with the Spiders, was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team last year. Competing primarily at No. 1 singles, she posted a 6-11 record during her senior season. In doubles, she finished with a 3-8 mark alongside Claire Le Du on court No. 1 while also recording an even 1-1 record with Lara Bakhaya and a 1-0 record with Polina Shitikova. She delivered a key singles win in the A-10 Championship against No. 4 Fordham, defeating Alhach 7-6(4), 6-3.
Barbulescu, a freshman from Snagov, Romania, has already made an impact in her collegiate career. She has an 11-7 overall singles record, including a deep run in the ITA Masters during the fall campaign. In the spring, she has competed on court No. 1, recording a 2-2 mark thus far.
The Spiders are back in action on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. as the team takes on Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. before another road contest at East Carolina on March 1 at 11 a.m.
