LAS VEGAS – The University of Richmond women's tennis team battled but fell 4-0 to UNLV on Thursday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Spiders move to 4-4 on the season while the Rebels improve to 9-3.
How It Happened
Richmond fought to gain an early edge in doubles play, but UNLV took the point with wins on courts one and two. Andrea Campodonico and Lara Bakhaya fell 6-4 to Nikol Mircheva and Hanna Vinahradava (UNLV) on the top court, while Sofia Barbulescu and Elizabeth Novak were edged 7-5 by Cindy Hu and Coco Zhao (UNLV) on court two. The third doubles match featuring Spider duo Claire Le Du and Lainey O'Neil remained unfinished at 6-6.
In singles action, UNLV clinched the match with victories in the first three completed contests. Abby Lee was first to finish, dropping a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Coco Zhao (UNLV) on court three. Andrea Campodonico then fell 6-2, 6-4 to Veronica Kliuch (UNLV) on court two before Sofia Barbulescu fell in a three-set thriller to Cindy Hu (UNLV) on the top court, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.
Three matches went unfinished as UNLV secured the win. Bakhaya was in a tight match on court four, leading after two sets before play was halted, while Novak and Le Du also had their matches cut short.
