RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Athletics raised $1,281,606 to support Spider student-athletes during the University of Richmond's seventh annual #URHere Giving Day, the department announced Monday. The result represented an increase of approximately 25 percent from 2024, when Spider Athletics raised over $1,000,000 on Giving Day, the first time the department exceeded one million dollars.
"We're extremely fortunate to have a strong tradition of support for our Athletics program at Richmond," said Vice President and Director of Athletics John P. Hardt. "The record-shattering results from this year's Giving Day are a great example of how many of our fans, friends, and family members are committed to providing our Spider student-athletes with the very best opportunities and experiences. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Your gift will help our Spiders realize their full academic and athletic potential!"
This year's Giving Day was held on April 9-10, with more than 2,500 donors contributing to Richmond Athletics during that span, another department record. Over the last four years, contributions to Spider Athletics on Giving Day have more than doubled from the 2021 total of $523,000 raised by the department.
"The incredible generosity shown to Spider Athletics during UR Here Giving Day is truly inspiring. The record-breaking year is a powerful testament to the dedication of our alumni, families, and fans," said Assistant Athletics Director for Annual Giving Katherine Bulifant. "These gifts are more than just numbers as they provide vital resources to elevate the student-athlete experience."
Spider sports teams had the opportunity to earn an additional $50,000 in incentives provided by alumnus Rob Goergen, R'93. Men's lacrosse earned $16,000 in bonus funds, registering the most donors (381) and most dollars raised ($283,728) among all programs. Field hockey earned $8,000 for securing the most donors (331) among female teams, and women's lacrosse earned an $8,000 bonus for recording the most dollars raised ($109,429).
The two $5,000 bonuses for most improved performance went to women's basketball, which increased its dollars raised by 81% from 2024, and to baseball, which increased its number of donors by 111% from last year. Field hockey, men's golf, swimming & diving, women's basketball, and women's tennis shared the final bonus award, splitting $8,000 for the highest roster participation during Giving Day, with all student-athletes on those respective teams donating during the 36-hour window.
