Fitzgerald’s Equalizer Lifts Spiders to Road Draw at Howard

WASHINGTON– The University of Richmond women's soccer team battled back in the second half to earn a 1-1 draw at Howard on Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium. The result moves the Spiders to 3-1-2 on the season, while the Bison sit at 2-2-1.
Goals:
35' – HOW: Demi Owens (unassisted)
51' – RIC: Kiley Fitzgerald (assisted by Julia Lishia)
How it Happened
Howard struck first in the 36th minute when Demi Owens capitalized on a chance from the top of the box to put the Bison up 1-0. Richmond responded just after halftime as senior Kiley Fitzgerald netted her fifth career goal and second of the season. The midfielder finished from close range in the 51st minute off a feed from Julia Lishia, who recorded her second assist of the season.
Goalkeeper Veronica Rrapi came up strong in the second half with five saves, including a pair of key stops in the final 15 minutes, to preserve the draw.

Richmond continues its road swing on Sunday, Sept. 7, at Queens (N.C.) before visiting Longwood Sept. 11 to close out non-conference play.
