Bakhaya Earns First Spring Win as Richmond Falls to Northwestern

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team earned its first individual victory of the spring on Sunday afternoon but ultimately fell 6-1 to Northwestern at the Raintree Swim & Racquet Club. The result moves the Spiders to 0-2 on the season, while the Wildcats improved to 3-0.

How It Happened
Northwestern claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and one to take an early 1-0 lead. The third doubles match was left unfinished with Beatriz Guerra and Lucy Webber tied 5-5 before play was halted.

Richmond responded in singles play with its lone point of the afternoon coming on court two. Lara Bakhaya picked up a three-set win over Neena Feldman, taking the opening set 6-4, before closing out the match in the third, 6-3, to put the Spiders on the board.

The Wildcats answered with straight-set wins across the remaining singles courts, including three-set victories on courts one and six, to secure the 6-1 decision.
