JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Competing for the first time in more than three months, the Richmond Spiders fired rounds of 13-over and 17-over in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Sea Best Invitational Monday at San Jose Country Club and are in fifth place on the team leaderboard with 18 holes remaining. At 30-over par (606), Richmond sits on the top half of the 11-team leaderboard, one shot behind fourth-place Middle Tennessee State and four clear of Samford and Daytona State, who are tied for sixth.
Junior Maya Beasley led the Spiders with rounds of 73 (+1) and 74 (+2) Monday and is tied for 15th place on the individual leaderboard at 3-over par (147).
"It was so nice to be back out competing," said Beasley after the round. "The conditions were super tough today with wind gusts up to 30 mph. I definitely have some rust to shave off, but I'm looking forward to this season with the best team!"
Beasley is two shots in front of freshman Addie Doroh, who is tied for 19th at 5-over par (149). Doroh led UR with a 1-over 73 in Round 2 Monday afternoon.
Senior Hannah Lydic is tied for 27th at 8-over par (152), senior Olivia Wilkie is tied for 50th at 15-over par (159), and sophomore Katie Magner is tied for 54th at 18-over par after back-to-back rounds of 81 Monday.
Two Spiders are competing as individuals. Sophomore Caroline Thompson is in 53rd place at 17-over par and junior Heather Appelson is 64th at 27-over par.
Monday's action was Richmond's first competitive rounds since wrapping up play in the final round of the Evie Odom Invitational on October 18.
Tuesday's third and final round will begin with a shotgun start at 10:45 AM.
