Spiders Earn Win Against ODU at William & Mary Quad Meet

HAMPTON, Va. – The University of Richmond women's swimming and diving team competed Friday at the William & Mary Quad Meet at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex against William & Mary, East Carolina and Old Dominion. The Spiders earned a win against ODU, 243-51, but fell to William & Mary, 211-83, and ECU, 174-125.

Lena Amare led the Spiders with a victory in the 200 IM, touching the wall first in 2:03.87 to earn a NIC B standard. Molly Blanchard followed with a third-place finish in 2:05.41.

In the 200 free, Amare led Richmond with a sixth-place finish in 1:52.69. Caitlyn Hughes placed ninth at 1:55.12, while Erin Budde finished 10th in 1:55.22.

In the 100 free, Presley Baber paced Richmond with a sixth-place finish in 52.50, while Julia Krichev placed seventh in 52.71. Hughes finished eighth at 53.00.

In the 50 free, Krichev led the Spiders with a sixth-place finish in 24.05. Baber finished seventh in 24.28, followed by Lydia Sturgeon in eighth at 24.39 and Hughes in ninth at 24.45.

Blanchard led Richmond in the 100 back with a sixth-place finish in 57.05. Hannah Wieczorek placed seventh at 57.23 and Caroline Weldon finished ninth in 57.73.

In the 200 fly, Kaitlyn Bauer finished seventh in 2:07.61. MaryAgnes Smith placed ninth at 2:09.14, while Kaitlyn Martin finished 11th in 2:11.99.

Gabbie Primiano led the Spiders in the 200 breast with a third-place finish in 2:21.86. Blanchard followed in seventh at 2:23.03, Trinity Schulze placed ninth in 2:28.56 and Budde finished 10th.

In the 100 breast, Primiano also led Richmond with a ninth-place finish in 1:06.40.
Natalie Stuart recorded a top Richmond finish in the distance events, placing fifth in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:28.52.

On the boards, Sally Harrington led the Spiders in the 3-meter dive with a score of 244.50 to finish sixth overall. Rachel Vandersea followed in seventh with a score of 239.40. In the 1-meter dive, Addie Grainger led Richmond with a fifth-place score of 240.75, while Harrington added a seventh-place finish with 236.25 points.

Richmond's top relay performance came in the 400 free relay, where the A team finished fourth with a time of 3:30.68. In the 200 medley relay, the Spiders' A team finished third in 1:44.86.

The Spiders will return to action as they travel to Villanova on Friday, Jan. 16.
