Spiders Drop 2-0 Decision at La Salle
10/08/2026 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Richmond allowed multiple goals for the first time in its last 16 games as La Salle defeated the Spiders 2-0 Thursday at McCarthy Stadium, snapping UR's program-record streak of 15 consecutive matches allowing one goal or fewer.
Richmond fell to 6-2-5 overall and 1-2-2 in Atlantic 10 play. Entering Thursday, the Spiders had not surrendered multiple goals since a 2-1 loss at VCU on Oct. 16, 2025, holding each of their final three opponents last season and their first 12 opponents this season to no more than one goal.
La Salle tested Richmond keeper Veronica Rrapi twice in the opening 10 minutes, with Rrapi stopping Alexis Garcia in the sixth minute and Justyce Hollenbach in the 10th. Sydney Bortz produced Richmond's first shot on goal in the 19th minute, but La Salle keeper Samantha Widnick made the save.
The Explorers broke through in the 27th minute when Hollenbach scored her eighth goal of the season off assists from Rylee Henson and Ella Cadigan. Rrapi later denied Shiloh Moore in the 31st minute to keep Richmond within a goal entering halftime. La Salle held a 6-2 advantage in shots and put four attempts on goal over the opening 45 minutes.
Morgane Zinn nearly pulled the Spiders even less than two minutes after halftime, putting a shot on goal that was stopped by a diving Widnick. La Salle responded by generating four shots over the next 10 minutes. Isabel Seifert, who replaced Rrapi in goal at halftime, made saves in the 50th and 56th minutes before Kameron Rase doubled the Explorers' lead at the 56:13 mark off assists from Kayden Williams and Henson.
La Salle finished with a 14-3 advantage in shots, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. The Explorers outshot Richmond 6-2 in the first half and 8-1 after halftime, while the Spiders held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. Rrapi made three saves in the opening half and Seifert stopped four shots over the final 45 minutes.
The loss was Richmond's second straight following its program-record 14-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season. The Spiders will return home Sunday to face Davidson at 2 p.m. at President's Field at River Road.
