GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season with a 6-1 victory at UNC Greensboro on Tuesday at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center. The win improves the Spiders to 1-3 on the year, while the Spartans fall to 0-6.

How It Happened
Richmond secured the doubles point with wins on courts three and two. Abby Lee and Lucy Webber opened the afternoon with a 6-2 victory over Sara Kostic and Ivet Sala-Sanchez (UNCG) at No. 3 doubles. Elizabeth Novak and Lainey O'Neil followed with a 6-3 win on court two against Sydney Bly and Sofia Somoano (UNCG) to clinch the early 1-0 lead. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Sofia Barbulescu and Beatriz Guerra was tied 4-4 when play was halted.

In singles, the Spiders won five of six matches to seal the team victory. Webber extended Richmond's advantage with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 win on court five, and Lee followed with a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 4 singles. O'Neil added a straight-set win on court six, defeating Ivet Sala-Sanchez (UNCG) 6-3, 6-4.

Guerra earned her first collegiate singles victory with a hard-fought three-set win at No. 3, rallying for a 6-7, 6-0, 10-6 triumph over Lauren Thomson (UNCG). Barbulescu capped the afternoon with a dramatic three-set win on court one, defeating Sophia Cedeno (UNCG) 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). The Spartans notched their lone point at No. 2 singles, where Sara Kostic (UNCG) outlasted Elizabeth Novak in a three-set battle.
