Women’s Tennis Falls to William & Mary Wednesday Night

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team dropped a tight 4-3 decision to William & Mary Wednesday night at the Raintree Swim and Racquet Club. The loss moves the Spiders to 1-5 on the spring season, while the Tribe improved to 5-1.
How It Happened
Richmond secured the opening doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Abby Lee and Sofia Barbulescu earned a 6-4 win at the top spot over Francesca Davis and Tilda Larsson (W&M). Lainey O'Neil and Lucy Webber followed with a 7-6(3) victory on court two to clinch the doubles point for the Spiders. William & Mary claimed the No. 3 position with a 6-2 win over Daniela O'Leary and Elizabeth Novak.
In singles play, the Tribe responded with straight-set victories on courts three and four to take the lead. Francesca Davis defeated Abby Lee 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3, and Mira Kernagis topped Beatriz Guerra 6-3, 6-1 on court four.
Sofia Barbulescu evened the match at two with a strong 7-5, 6-0 win over Sia Chaudry at the top spot, but William & Mary regained control with a three-set victory at No. 2 as Tilda Larsson edged Elizabeth Novak 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
Lucy Webber kept Richmond within striking distance with a 6-3, 7-5 win on court five, improving her spring singles record to 3-3. The match ultimately came down to court six, where Ale Gonzalez-Galino secured the clincher for the Tribe with a 6-4, 6-2 win over O'Neil.
