Richmond Claims Road Sweep at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team earned a 7-0 victory over The Citadel on Wednesday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center. With the win, the Spiders improve to 5-6 on the spring season, while the Bulldogs fall to 3-15.
How It Happened
Richmond opened the afternoon by securing the doubles point with victories on courts three and two. Otto Sewell and Charlie Burdell started the action with a dominant 6-0 decision over Nick Stroumpis and Anthony Osipov at No. 3 doubles. Sam Rathmanner and Paxton Pritchard followed with a 6-2 win against Noah Van Dyke and Tucker Hendrix on court two to clinch the point for the Spiders. The match on court one featuring Davis Wiley and Cole Brashear against Ted Bagwell and Brady Gober went unfinished.
The Spiders carried that momentum into singles play, claiming all six matches to complete the sweep. Wiley opened singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Noah Van Dyke at the top spot. Brashear followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Graham Hardin at No. 5 before Pritchard added a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Ted Bagwell on court three.
Germino extended the Richmond lead with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Anthony Osipov at No. 6 singles. Sewell rallied after dropping the opening set to defeat Nick Stroumpis 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 on court four, and Burdell closed the afternoon with a three-set win over Brady Gober, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, at No. 2 singles.
