Spiders Fall at CSUN to Wrap Up California Road Swing

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team fell 4-3 to CSUN on Friday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex. With the result, the Spiders move to 3-8 on the spring season while the Matadors improve to 8-5.
The match marked the final contest of Richmond's spring break trip to California, where the Spiders fell at Cal State Fullerton on Sunday and earned a win over UC Irvine on Tuesday before closing the swing against CSUN.
How It Happened
CSUN opened the afternoon by claiming the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Angela Ho and Nicole West defeated Sofia Barbulescu and Abby Lee 6-0 at the top spot before Madison Shepperson and Satsuki Ishikawa secured the point with a 6-2 decision over Beatriz Guerra and Elizabeth Novak on court three. The match on court two featuring Lainey O'Neil and Lucy Webber against Emma Moratalla Sanz and Sandra Arguelles went unfinished at 4-4.
Richmond responded in singles play with strong performances across the lineup. Lucy Webber evened the match first with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tallia Harper on court four. Sofia Barbulescu followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Angela Ho at the top position to give the Spiders a 2-1 lead.

Lainey O'Neil pulled Richmond level with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Madison Shepperson on court six, but CSUN clinched the match on the final court as Satsuki Ishikawa rallied past Beatriz Guerra 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 to secure the 4-3 result.
