AIKEN, S.C. — The Richmond Spiders women's golf team moved into the top five following Round 2 of the More Than Golf Invitational at Old Barnwell Monday. With Tuesday's final round remaining, the Spiders sit at 34-over par (618), four shots in front of sixth-place Southern Miss and three behind fourth-place Augusta.
Senior Hannah Lydic led UR with a 2-over 75 Monday to shoot up 20 places on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 11th at 7-over par (153). Playing the back 9 first, Lydic made the turn in 1-under par and was able to hold her round together on the difficult front 9.
"Hitting the center of the green and being patient with the result of each shot," said Lydic when asked about the key to her round. "The wind was crazy strong today and the course was so firm, not an easy combo. I'm so proud of this squad, grinding and making lemonade out of lemons."
A trio of Spiders, senior Olivia Wilkie, sophomore Katie Magner, and freshman Addie Doroh, are three shots behind Lydic, part of a group of four golfers tied for for 24th at 10-over par (156).
Junior Maya Beasley is one shot back of the group at 11-over par (157) in a tie for 28th.
Through two rounds, the Spiders are a combined 9-under par on the par 5s at Old Barnwell, second best of any of the 12 teams in the field behind Tulsa (12-under).
Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 AM.
