Spiders Move to Third at City of Oaks Collegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. — Richmond rose to third on the leaderboard at the City of Oaks Collegiate on the strength of a 7-over 295 Monday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. With 18 holes remaining, Richmond is at 22-over par (598), trailing only Rutgers (+21) and host NC State (+6) among the 13 teams in the field.
The Spiders, seeking their fourth top-five finish in four events this spring, were led by a pair of underclassmen in Round 2. Freshman Addie Doroh fired a 1-over 73 to move up into a tie for seventh on the individual leaderboard at 4-over par (148), and sophomore Katie Magner matched her with a 1-over 73 Tuesday, a nine-shot improvement on her Round 1 score.
"My biggest thing was just staying where my feet were and hitting one shot at a time. I started to walk and swing really fast yesterday, so having good tempo and walking slowly were my main thoughts," said Magner following the round. "We also did a lot of putting after the round yesterday and so I was able to make a few more of my birdie looks today."
Magner is tied for 44th at 11-over par (155), three shots behind Spider seniors Hannah Lydic and Olivia Wilkie, who are tied for 28th at 8-over par (152).
Junior Maya Beasley is in the top 20 along with Doroh. She's tied for 16th at 6-over par (150).
Through two rounds, Richmond has played the par 3s at Lonnie Poole in a combined 3-over par, best of any team.
Round 3 will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM Tuesday.
