RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond women's tennis players Abby Lee and Beatriz Guerra earned Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors, the league office announced on Tuesday. Lee was tabbed Co-Player of the Week alongside Rhode Island's Sophia Herman while Guerra was selected as Rookie of the Week.
The honors mark the first career weekly awards for both players and the second and third for the Spiders this season after Lucy Webber was named Player of the Week on March 10. The Spiders split the week, earning a 4-3 victory over East Carolina after falling to VCU, 4-1.
Lee posted a perfect week for Richmond, going 2-0 in singles play across two matches while competing in the middle of the lineup. She accounted for the Spiders' lone point in the match against VCU with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 4 position and followed with another straight-set victory in Saturday's 4-3 win over East Carolina, earning a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 3 singles to help Richmond secure the team result.
Guerra delivered a strong performance in Richmond's 4-3 win over East Carolina, earning a commanding straight-set victory at the No. 6 singles position. The freshman defeated Joan Madi 6-2, 6-2 to secure one of four singles points for the Spiders. Guerra also battled in a tightly contested match against VCU, forcing a third set before play was left unfinished.
Richmond will be back in action on April 4 at 11 a.m. against Rhode Island in Davidson, N.C. on a neutral court before taking on Davidson on April 5 at 1 p.m. on the Wildcats' home court.
