RICHMOND, Va. --Â Aron Stewart, a 6'5" forward who remains Richmond's all-time leader in points per game, died last month at the age of 75.Â
Stewart was a member of the Richmond Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2010 following a record-setting two-year career with Spider men's basketball after he transferred to Richmond from New Jersey's Essex County College in 1972.
More than 50 years since his time at Richmond, Stewart's two seasons with the Spiders remain second and third on the program's list of highest scoring average in a season, and no Spider before or since has eclipsed Stewart's career average of 28.1 points per game.Â
As a junior in 1972-73, Stewart set a Richmond record by averaging 30.2 points per game, fifth best in the nation, and was named Southern Conference Player of the Year, despite appearing in just 19 games for a UR team that finished 8-16.Â
As a senior in 1973-74, Stewart was named team captain. He would average 26.5 points and 12 rebounds per game while leading Richmond to a 16-12 record, the team's first winning season since 1957-58.
