Champs Again! Spiders Repeat as A-10 Women's Golf Champions

ORLANDO, Fla. — How dominant were the Spiders in their quest for a second straight title at this week's A-10 Women's Golf Championship? The entire Richmond lineup finished in front of 24 of the 25 non-Spiders in the field in the 54-hole event, as Spiders placed first, third, fourth, and tied for fifth (two players) on the individual leaderboard while romping to a 28-stroke win. Richmond combined for a team score of 305 (+17) in Wednesday's third and final round to finish the event at 51-over par (915), 28 shots in front of runner-up Loyola Chicago.
Richmond has now won back-to-back A-10 titles and three conference championships in the last four years, a stretch that began with UR's win at the 2023 Patriot League Championship.
"I told them this morning they were prepared and I believed in them and they were here for a reason," said Spiders coach Calle Barlow. "We had some shaky spots, but they did really keep it together and kept making good choices."
Junior Maya Beasley won medalist honors with a combined total of 5-over par (221) after rounds of 73, 72, and 76. It was her second win this season after her victory at the season-opening Tribe Invitational in September.
"It just feels so awesome," said Beasley. "We've been working all year for this one. The individual one is special, but the team one could not be more special. I'm just so happy for these girls. We've just put in so much work."
Richmond entered the day with a 25-shot lead and the Spiders remained at least 20 shots clear of the field throughout the final round. Even UR's five bogeys on the 18th hole couldn't put much of a dent into its final margin, the third-largest margin of victory in program history.
"I think we just stuck to our plan. On this golf course anything can happen, so just take it one shot at a time. We knew our targets and we committed to those," said Beasley. "I knew this team could do it, but we just worked so hard and made it so no one else could beat us here this week."
Beasley was closely followed by all four of her teammates on the individual leaderboard.
Senior Olivia Wilkie placed third at 15-over par (231), one shot in front of senior Hannah Lydic, who finished fourth. It was the second top-five individual finish at a conference championship for both golfers. Lydic was A-10 individual champion last year and Wilkie placed third at the 2023 Patriot League Championship.
"My two seniors have been unbelievable," said Barlow. "Good people, work hard, provide good examples for all the girls. And I really do think this group looked up to them and that's really special."
Sophomore Katie Magner and freshman Addie Doroh both tied for fifth at 18-over par (234). Doroh shared the A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie Award for low freshman at the conference tournament with Dayton's Etta Huffman, who also tied for fifth.
"It's really cool to have somebody from each year of eligibility in this lineup," said Barlow. "Addie gets to see it. Katie gets to see it for a second time. Maya has seen it twice and gets her own individual win. This team, four of them have been together for two of these championships, so it says a lot of about their hard work and their commitment to Richmond."
The Spiders will find out which NCAA Regional they will head to during the NCAA Women's Golf Selection Show on Wednesday, April 29 at 5 PM ET on the Golf Channel.
